Book: Nurturing the older brain and mind
by Greenwood and Parasuraman. This is a great book to read to understand the current understanding of the older brain. Much more sciency(lots of references) than Barbara Strauchs' book, The secret life of the grown-up brain : the surprising talents of the middle-aged mind. I had to get it in an interlibrary loan from a college. You can see the 13 chapter headings in the contents on Look inside at Amazon. You need to read one or the other.
