The Neurobiology of Brain Injury

Importantly, the brain can limit the spread of damage by forming a glial scar that seals off the damaged region.
 Brain injury leads to increased neural plasticity in the spared regions. This allows the neurons in these regions to take over the sensory or motor functions that had been performed by the damaged areas.
