Do neurons cross the central sulcus between the motor cortex and sensory cortex? Or do they connect through the white matter if necessary?

I had this question many years ago when I figured out that my sensory cortex seems intact but the motor and pre-motor cortex were badly damaged. I knew any doctor I talked to would not know the answer so I posted the question on Quora.

with a couple of great images.
The central sulcus is a valley in the outer folds of the brain's cerebral cortex. No axons cross the gap. But just below the central sulcus, the primary somatosensory cortex and the primary motor cortex are physically adjacent to each other, and are connected by short association fibres (SAF) from pyramidal neurons.
