Muscogiuri G, et al. – This study offers updated information on the role of vitamin D in cardiovascular health and authors tried to clarify how vitamin D is involved in the whole dynamic process from the initiation of endothelial dysfunction to the development of myocardial infarction and stroke.
  • Nowadays, studies are being conducted to clearly unveil the interesting role of vitamin D in the pathogenesis, epidemiology and prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD).
  • Researchers have found an association between vitamin D deficiency and an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) given to the relationship between low vitamin D levels and obesity, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidaemia, endothelial dysfunction and hypertension.
  • However, no evidence successfully explains the mechanisms through which vitamin D deficiency leads from endothelial dysfunction to myocardial infarction and stroke despite the fact that vitamin D has been identified as a potentially important marker of CVD.
