NEWTON, Mass., Nov. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Learning Corp (TLC) today announced that veterans eligible for speech or cognitive therapy through the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) are eligible to access the Constant Therapy mobile app at no cost to them. Constant Therapy is a tool for use by clinicians with patients to help with recovery from speech, language and cognitive disorders. As such it enables veterans with long-term disabilities due to traumatic brain injury, stroke or aphasia to obtain critical rehabilitation from the comfort of their home.
Traumatic brain injuries affect about 2.5 million Americans annually. Active duty and reserve service members are at increased risk for brain injury due to exposure to blasts during deployment. Stroke is another major health issue affecting veterans; the VA estimates that 15,000 veterans receive VA care for stroke each year, and there are more than 750,000 strokes annually among the general population.
Due to the chronic nature of these injuries, veterans require access to long-term rehabilitation. With the Constant Therapy app, available for download on iPhone, iPad, Android and Amazon Fire devices, patients perform evidence-based therapy exercises to motivate them and help with necessary skills such as speaking, reading, writing, math, memory and attention.
"Constant Therapy has been invaluable for my veteran who suffered a stroke 45 days ago. He works at home one to two hours a day on the tasks assigned. As a patient with severe apraxia, this has been a difference-maker. He's making major gains," said Debra Gleeson, Ph.D., CCC-SLP at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center.
"More than 50 million exercises have been performed by Constant Therapy users to date and with insights drawn from this data, we are uniquely able to personalize the therapy experience for each user," said Veera Anantha, Ph.D., co-founder and chief operations officer, The Learning Corp. "It is with great pride that, in time for National Veterans Month, we are able to extend this high-value rehabilitation to the VA's members and help better serve those men and women in need of more convenient access to evidenced-based care."
The Learning Corp now accepts payments directly from the VA, ensuring that Veterans who receive speech and language therapy through the VA can download Constant Therapy and subscribe at no cost to them.
To learn more, veterans should ask their VA clinician or doctor to contact The Learning Corp at 1-888-233-1399 or constanttherapy.com/contact-us and ask about the VA NO COST Program.
