Xu L, et al. - In this first prospective study in China, researchers assessed the link between egg consumption and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in participants without CVD at baseline (2003-08). The Meta-analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology reporting guidelines were followed and Cox proportional hazards regression was used. Eating one egg daily was not found to be related to an increase in CVD or all-cause mortality. A small attenuation in stroke risk was noted. Current guidelines recommending eggs as part of a healthy diet were supported and consideration in other dietary recommendations was also advised.
