Using a subset of the National
Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan, researchers examined the
link between post-stroke dementia (PSD) and risk of mortality.
Participants included patients aged 40 years and older who received a
stroke diagnosis between 2000 and 2012. These patients were classified
into PSD and post-stroke non-dementia (PSN) cohorts, and propensity
score (PS) matching was used. An increased subsequent mortality rate was
observed in patients with PSD vs those without PSD. Moreover, patients
with PSD had increased average hospital days and frequency of medical
visit.
