Music festivals this past year

Homegrown - Duluth/Superior April 28-May 5, Sunday to Sunday.

This was a lot of fun, mainly because you could take the trolley around. If you absolutely want to see an act you almost have to get there at the beginning of the session right before it. 

Winnipeg Folk Festival - July 9-12, Kinda the standard to beat. 7 stages during the day, lots of running around. Two main stages at night, including one for the youngsters at heart to dance to.  Excellent quiet camping with picnic shelter, water and electricity. Lots of babies and children around. 

Stan Rogers Folk Festival - July 25-28, Canso, Nova Scotia.

The tent camping had maybe 15 tents in space for 80, Very mosquito infested. I didn't even try to make breakfast there. Breakfast was available in the hockey arena, mainly eggs and sausage, food trucks didn't get going until 11am. No picnic tables, 5 minute walk to stages. The beer tent was too far from the stages to even hear them. Three stages during the day, very close together. Years ago there were 7 stages. This was almost totally folk. The main stage had the front area for low chairs, no tarps. Everyone lined up the chairs in perfect rows. The regulars came to the evening show prepared, winter coats, toques and blankets.  They said no alcohol on the grounds but there was no checking of bags. Standard food truck fare. To give you an idea of the size; the 50/50 raffle at Winnipeg hit around 20,000 dollars, At Stanfest it was $1500. The vast majority of people were there in their large RVs. Lots of 70 and 80 year olds, only saw a couple babies, not many children. Wouldn't go back.

Bayfront Blues Festival - Aug. 9-11, Duluth, MN Two stages, the main stage is where you parked your stadium chairs for the day, almost impossible to get shade. The second stage was under a large tent with folding chairs in it. They alternated playing between the stages so you got to hear every act. 10 minutes between shows, enough time to get food and a beer. Beer was allowed throughout the site.

I already bought tickets for 2020, Aug. 14-16

Going to checkout the Newport Folk Festival; July 31 - August 2, 2020, tickets were sold out by January this past year. No camping on site, no re-entry so once you get there you are there for the day.  Beer Garden Hours: Noon – 6:30 PM Daily
