Recumbent tricycle learnings#4
9/15/2020 was 5.16 miles in 0:41:14. Avg. speed; 7.5 mph. Max speed 19.4
mph. Elevation loss; 134.2 feet. Elevation gain; 108.3; Avg. pace 7:59 min/mi. 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Around Lake Como in St. Paul again.
9/21/2020 Back in Michigan, normal 8.15 mile loop,57.06 minutes, 7 min/mi. Lost GPS immediately, so no further stats. All the more reason to install the cell phone holder on my right steering post so I can see it in real time.
9/22/2020 Back in Michigan, normal 8.15 mile loop,55.58 minutes, 6.87
min/mi. Only three points registered on the GPS so useless stats. All the more reason
to install the cell phone holder on my right steering post so I can see
it in real time. That will have to wait for next year, heading for Florida the month of October, although I might be able to rig a warm wrap for my left hand for winter biking.
According to the nation's leading infectious disease expert(Dr. Fauci), you don't need to wear a mask when you're riding a bike. Good because when I'm really working I'm not sure I could get enough air in my lungs.
If you need to pass someone, ensure you do so with at least six feet of distance between you. Not possible, the bike trail is only 8 feet wide and the recumbent takes up at least 3 feet. Right now I'm not passing anyone.
9/23/2020 Back in Michigan, normal 8.15 mile loop,55.04 minutes, 6.75
min/mi. Only accurately registered where I turn around so useless stats.
I am getting better, first try was 1:05;8min/mi
I may have to get clip on bike shoes, I can't continuously pedal while going over curb cuts. My left foot has a tendency to come off the pedal. I can visualize the impending carnage
1. I can't hold my leg up in the air and safely get it back on the pedal.
2. The foot drops to the ground, catches and goes underneath the bike frame.
3. The whole lower leg scrapes under the bike, tipping the bike over the left side, catapulting me face first onto the pavement. Or if I'm really lucky onto the grass shoulder.
