ABSTRACT

Occupational therapy’s role in the rehabilitation of stroke includes the evaluation, assessment, and treatment of sensorimotor, musculoskeletal, cognitive, and psychosocial symptoms (Rowland, Cooke, & Gustafsson, 2008). Additionally, occupational therapists have been identified by the American Stroke Association as a key member of the rehabilitation team as part of a stroke survivor’s recovery (American Stroke Association, 2022). We looked at how senori-motor interventions given in occupational therapy could effect upper extremity motor function in patients who have experienced a stroke. Findings: We found that sensori-motor interventions of mirror therapy, repetitive peripheral nerve simulation and hands-on therapy, in conjunction with traditional occupational therapy services can improve upper extremity motor function in patients who have experienced a stroke.
