Using Social Interaction in Rehabilitation to Improve Stroke Patients Motivation

The real title should be 'How to distract from your complete lack of stroke recovery by suggesting that you didn't recover because you weren't motivated enough'. I instead blame your stroke medical professionals for not having the motivation to assume responsibility for getting all survivors 100% recovered. Put the blame where it belongs. Your stroke staff.

Abstract: Rehabilitation for stroke is important for recovery, but living independently after stroke is not easy. Difficulty accepting their new condition, facing the changes of roles and self-concept are mentioned as psychological challenges that lead to low social interaction affecting relations around them. Additionally, low levels of emotional support may cause depression and decrease motivation, which has been proven that sufficient social support can influence the training outcome with better performance, resulting in a faster recovery. Therefore, our aim of this study is (1) to explore the concept of sharing in rehabilitation to improve patients’ motivation through (2) developing a user-friendly tangible device to train their upper limbs fine motor (ULFM) skills. To investigate the impact of this research direction, this study will focus on both the development of the rehabilitation training device, and collection and comparison of data of their interactions and motivation levels.

  1. As you know, some stroke survivors contribute to this delusion too - "I recovered 100% through my hard work, along with the grace of God." Translated: "Those who have not recovered are lazy heathens."
