Survivors would much prefer a RECOVERY PATHWAY! Not the useless 'care' pathway! Don't you ever talk to survivors? So, you think survivors don't need to be involved in actions involving stroke? I'd fire anyone working on 'care' instead of RECOVERY!
MoHFW Calls For Urgent Action To Combat Rising Stroke Cases In India

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has called for immediate and collaborative action to address the increasing burden of stroke cases in India. Speaking at the National Stroke Summit 2025, Puniya Salila Srivastava, Secretary, MoHFW, emphasised the critical need for prevention and care(NOT RECOVERY!)pathways, given that non-communicable diseases (NCDs) now account for 66 per cent of deaths in the country.
“Stroke, often linked to diabetes and hypertension, is largely preventable. The government is committed to addressing the growing burden of NCDs by implementing a comprehensive hub-and-spoke model for stroke care(NOT RECOVERY!), ensuring equitable access to specialised treatments and rehabilitation services. With nearly 500 stroke care units operational, we aim to expand this network further by the next financial year,” Srivastava stated.
The event was organised by FICCI in collaboration with the Indian Medical Parliamentarians Forum (IMPF) and the World Stroke Organization (WSO) and highlighted the urgent need for strategies to reduce stroke-related mortality and disability.
Dr. Balbir Singh, Health Minister of Punjab, described stroke as a "national health crisis" and revealed its impact on the state. "Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death and the fifth leading cause of disability in India. In Punjab, the annual incidence is approximately 40,000 cases. To address this, the state has implemented a comprehensive Stroke Care Pathway, integrating district hospitals and medical colleges under a hub-and-spoke model. This ensures timely and scalable care(NOT RECOVERY!) for every patient," he explained.
Dr. Jeyaraj Pandian, President of the World Stroke Organization, emphasised the importance of early and specialised care(NOT RECOVERY!). "Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Time-sensitive procedures like thrombectomy and dedicated stroke units are essential for recovery. The National Stroke Action Plan aims to establish stroke units in district hospitals, expand facilities in medical colleges, train healthcare providers, and enhance rehabilitation services. These efforts are expected to reduce stroke incidence and disability by 2030," he noted.
Findings from PRAAN, India’s first multicentric prospective registry on mechanical thrombectomy, were unveiled at the summit. Mandeep Singh Kumar, Managing Director and Vice President of Medtronic India, stressed the importance of research and partnerships. "The PRAAN stroke registry and innovative care models are crucial for addressing systemic challenges and improving patient outcomes across India," he said.
Dr. Anil Sukhdevrao Bonde, Chairperson of IMPF, praised the government’s focus on healthcare equity. "The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Health for All by 2047’ is revolutionary. Forums like this bridge the gap between researchers, clinicians, and policymakers, helping to create a more unified healthcare system," he remarked.
Dr. Harsh Mahajan, Chair of the FICCI Health Services Committee, echoed the call for collaboration. "The National Stroke Summit 2025 is a pivotal platform for sharing knowledge and developing innovative solutions. Through partnerships and innovation, we can build a healthcare system that delivers effective care(NOT RECOVERY!) for all," he said.
The summit, attended by leading policymakers, healthcare professionals, and industry stakeholders(but not stroke survivors! No wonder you don't address survivor needs you blithering idiots!), reinforced the need for unified efforts to combat stroke, which remains a leading cause of death and disability in India and worldwide.
