Changing stroke rehab and research worldwide now.Time is Brain! trillions and trillions of neurons that DIE each day because there are NO effective hyperacute therapies besides tPA(only 12% effective). I have 523 posts on hyperacute therapy, enough for researchers to spend decades proving them out. These are my personal ideas and blog on stroke rehabilitation and stroke research. Do not attempt any of these without checking with your medical provider. Unless you join me in agitating, when you need these therapies they won't be there.

What this blog is for:

My blog is not to help survivors recover, it is to have the 10 million yearly stroke survivors light fires underneath their doctors, stroke hospitals and stroke researchers to get stroke solved. 100% recovery. The stroke medical world is completely failing at that goal, they don't even have it as a goal. Shortly after getting out of the hospital and getting NO information on the process or protocols of stroke rehabilitation and recovery I started searching on the internet and found that no other survivor received useful information. This is an attempt to cover all stroke rehabilitation information that should be readily available to survivors so they can talk with informed knowledge to their medical staff. It lays out what needs to be done to get stroke survivors closer to 100% recovery. It's quite disgusting that this information is not available from every stroke association and doctors group.

Kickstart - New technology to help stroke survivors walk

Something for you to discuss with your therapist. I know going to your doctor with your ideas on how to get better goes against the whole medical establishment. And mine dismissed my ideas/questions. But hell, stroke rehab is a complete failure, we can't do any worse. I know this showed up in Stroke Survivors Tattler this weekend  but it needs all the exposure it can get. Originally inspired by a horses leg; Technology was licensed to Cadence Biomedical

Device inspired by a horse’s leg aims to help people with weak hips walk confidently

The Kickstart orthosis is a new class of self-powered exoskeletons designed to enable walking and accelerate rehabilitation for those recovering from neurological injuries such as stroke, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury, as well as degenerative diseases such as MS, muscular dystrophy, and ALS.  It’s designed to help users regain and maintain independence with less reliance on walkers, canes, and wheelchairs and without the expense of robotic devices.

  1. I appreciate your having recommended this. It took a while but I have finally gotten an evaluation for my husband for this and we are getting one. It really appears that it will be quite helpful. Just in a few minutes, my husband (has aphasia too) was more comfortable putting weight on his affected right leg. With some help from PT and practice to utilize his left leg better, the Kickstart should be very helpful. Medicare now only covers a part of this. Some private insurances do cover more. I'm really excited about his getting it.

  2. Pretty much the whole idea behind my blog is to point out to the medical world that they know squat and to help survivors educate their providers.
