Changing stroke rehab and research worldwide now.Time is Brain! trillions and trillions of neurons that DIE each day because there are NO effective hyperacute therapies besides tPA(only 12% effective). I have 523 posts on hyperacute therapy, enough for researchers to spend decades proving them out. These are my personal ideas and blog on stroke rehabilitation and stroke research. Do not attempt any of these without checking with your medical provider. Unless you join me in agitating, when you need these therapies they won't be there.

What this blog is for:

My blog is not to help survivors recover, it is to have the 10 million yearly stroke survivors light fires underneath their doctors, stroke hospitals and stroke researchers to get stroke solved. 100% recovery. The stroke medical world is completely failing at that goal, they don't even have it as a goal. Shortly after getting out of the hospital and getting NO information on the process or protocols of stroke rehabilitation and recovery I started searching on the internet and found that no other survivor received useful information. This is an attempt to cover all stroke rehabilitation information that should be readily available to survivors so they can talk with informed knowledge to their medical staff. It lays out what needs to be done to get stroke survivors closer to 100% recovery. It's quite disgusting that this information is not available from every stroke association and doctors group.

The Comforting Trap of Blaming the Victim

An excellent writeup By

Our stroke associations have perfected this by only focusing on prevention messages and F.A.S.T.
F.A.S.T. is a wonderful way to blame the victim. You didn't recognize you had a stroke and get to the hospital fast enough to avail yourself of the medical interventions of stroke. Nevermind tPA hiding behind the curtain with only a 12% efficacy. This may be the best they can do right now but it leads directly to blaming the victim.

ASA statement;

THINK YOU ARE HAVING A STROKE? CALL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY!

F.A.S.T. is an easy way to remember the sudden signs of stroke. When you can spot the signs, you'll know that you need to call 9-1-1 for help right away. F.A.S.T. is:
F.          Face Drooping – Does one side of the face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to smile. Is the person's smile uneven?
A.      Arm Weakness – Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
S.        Speech Difficulty – Is speech slurred? Is the person unable to speak or hard to understand? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence, like "The sky is blue." Is the sentence repeated correctly?
T.            Time to call 9-1-1 – If someone shows any of these symptoms, even if the symptoms go away, call 9-1-1 and get the person to the hospital immediately. Check the time so you'll know when the first symptoms appeared.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 NSA statement:

Use FAST to remember the warning signs:

Does one side of the face droop?
A.      ARMS:

Ask the person to raise both arms.

Does one arm drift downward?

S.            SPEECH:

Is their speech slurred or strange?

T.             TIME:

  1. Dean, blaming the victim is one of my favorite topics. You and I do it when we explain the mechanical nature of our strokes - we were fit and doing something that was really good for us (rowing) when our arteries dissected and we had strokes. Other people - not us - "deserve" strokes - the french-fry-eating couch potatoes with high BP and cholesterol. Not us. We had a false sense of security that taking care of our bodies would prevent stroke.
