OhioHealth neurologist earns Physician of the Year recognition from American Heart Association
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The American Heart Association is recognizing a central Ohioan as the AHA Physician of the Year.
OhioHealth vascular neurologist Dr. BJ Hicks works to save the lives of people who have suffered strokes, with a special focus on also helping to ensure rescue therapy and treatment is accessible and quickly available to everyone, no matter where they live.
The AHA recognized him for elevating stroke care(NOT RECOVERY!) at OhioHealth and beyond.
Dr. Hicks was nominated for his work in helping OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital elevate their stroke care(NOT RECOVERY!) and treat patients according to Association guidelines. His areas of focus at OhioHealth include acute stroke treatment and care(NOT RECOVERY!), central nervous system vasculitis and stroke.
The American Heart Association Physician of the Year award honors the longstanding commitment to the highest ideals of patient care(NOT RECOVERY!) and exemplary leadership in the American Heart Association's mission.
Dr. Hicks' commitment is proven as he's recognized as a leading advocate for health-improving policies at the local and state government levels. He created and led the American Heart Association Franklin County Hypertension Network. It is a network of community-based and healthcare organizations to working to address high blood pressure by providing resources and funding in support of evidence-based strategies to improve blood pressure control across the community.
The Columbus native served as American Heart Association Midwest Region Board President, which meant leading strategic direction across the 13-state region.
Outside of work, Dr. Hicks enjoys spending time with his wife, two young children, extended family and friends.
Dr. HIcks will be honored in a special ceremony in June.
