Ask them what their goals are for tPA efficacy, full recovery and dementia prevention. Not the just the potential to reduce fatality and disability considerably, Ask what RESULTS are going to be the goals of the stroke unit. None of this wishy-wishy crap they are going to use on you. And there is even a contact to make it easy to ask for specifics.
RESULTS!!

Kauvery Hospital, leaders in Ortho Geriatric care and Paediatric
Cardiology, today inaugurated an acute stroke unit to provide intensive
care to its patients. This dedicated unit has a multi-disciplinary team
of specially trained health professionals spread across Emergency
Department, Neurology, Neurosurgery, General Medicine, Intensive Care,
Anesthesiology, Radiology, Interventional Specialist, Physiotherapist
and Nutritionist. Other specialists like Cardiologists and Nephrologists
are also available round the clock to attend to the critical needs of
stroke affected patients.
Dr. Prithika Chary - MBBS, MD, DM, Ph.D., MNAMS, MCh - Head of Neuroscience department, Kauvery Hospital said, "We
are all set to handle any type of strokes in our new stroke unit.
Identifying stroke is very crucial in ensuring prompt medicare. There
are four identifying factors in stroke, abbreviated as FAST.
'F' stands for Face, where it is found to be drooping. 'A' stands for
Arms (or legs), where there is weakness or numbness. 'S' stands for
Speech, where difficulty in speech is experienced while 'T' stands for
Time, which indicates that medical attention, must be sought
immediately. FAST is an awareness programme initiated by the British
government and has been hugely popular. There is an imperative need to
take up this campaign to create awareness among the people."
Dr. Buvaneshwari Rajendran - MBBS, MRCPC (UK), CCT (UK) - Consultant Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuroscience, Kauvery Hospital, also highlighted the warning signs: "Transient
Ischaemic attacks are forerunners of a stroke and involve brief spells
of neurological deficits which come and go - this requires a complete
investigation and management to avert a stroke. When a stroke occurs it
could be due to blockage (thrombotic stroke) or due to the internal
bursting of a blood vessel (Haemorrhagic stroke and subarachnoid
haemorrhage) or due to blockage of a blood vessel by a clot coming from
the heart or the carotid artery (embolic stroke)."
Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj - MS, FRCS (UK), Executive Director, Kauvery Hospital added, "We
have to run different tests to know the origin of the stroke to help
prevent recurrence and at the same time rehabilitation of the patient
has residual deficits after the stroke. The lead neurologist has over 36
years of experience in neurology and the entire team consists of
experts in their respective fields with more than 10 years of
experience."
Kauvery Hospital, being located in a central area of Chennai,
has a special orientation towards treating the senior citizens by
virtue of its excellent and well-known geriatric services. Over the last
few months, Kauvery Hospital has recorded a sharp increase in several
cases of stroke victims being admitted to their facility and hence
decided to set up a dedicated stroke unit. Strokes can occur among
elders frequently with a background of co-morbid illnesses like
hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiac disease and dyslipidemia.
Stroke is the third commonest recorded emergency situation after cardiac
disease and trauma. A focussed Stroke Unit can play a very important
role in a quick rehabilitation of the patient since a multidisciplinary
team has the potential to reduce fatality and disability considerably.
Kauvery Hospital has dedicated and qualified professionals certified by NIHSS (A certification from the National Institute of Health, USA)(who cares about certifications? What are their results?)
to recognize and grade different types of strokes and decide the
relevant type of treatment. The in-house CT scan enables a rapid and
precise diagnosis and the team of competent neurologists, neurosurgeons
and neuro-interventionists are then equipped to manage all types of
strokes with the required medical, surgical or interventional treatment.

Use the labels in the right column to find what you want. Or you can go thru them one by one, there are only 29,294 posts. Searching is done in the search box in upper left corner. I blog on anything to do with stroke. DO NOT DO ANYTHING SUGGESTED HERE AS I AM NOT MEDICALLY TRAINED, YOUR DOCTOR IS, LISTEN TO THEM. BUT I BET THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET YOU 100% RECOVERED. I DON'T EITHER BUT HAVE PLENTY OF QUESTIONS FOR YOUR DOCTOR TO ANSWER.
Changing stroke rehab and research worldwide now.Time is Brain! trillions and trillions of neurons that DIE each day because there are NO effective hyperacute therapies besides tPA(only 12% effective). I have 523 posts on hyperacute therapy, enough for researchers to spend decades proving them out. These are my personal ideas and blog on stroke rehabilitation and stroke research. Do not attempt any of these without checking with your medical provider. Unless you join me in agitating, when you need these therapies they won't be there.
What this blog is for:
My blog is not to help survivors recover, it is to have the 10 million yearly stroke survivors light fires underneath their doctors, stroke hospitals and stroke researchers to get stroke solved. 100% recovery. The stroke medical world is completely failing at that goal, they don't even have it as a goal. Shortly after getting out of the hospital and getting NO information on the process or protocols of stroke rehabilitation and recovery I started searching on the internet and found that no other survivor received useful information. This is an attempt to cover all stroke rehabilitation information that should be readily available to survivors so they can talk with informed knowledge to their medical staff. It lays out what needs to be done to get stroke survivors closer to 100% recovery. It's quite disgusting that this information is not available from every stroke association and doctors group.
