Email sent to all the press officers in the UK Stroke Association
Dear UK Stroke Association,
There really is no point in increasing funding until a stroke rehabilitation strategy is identified that addresses all the problems in stroke. Otherwise we are just flailing in the dark. Existing funding could be better used with a defined strategy.
You can ignore me all you want, I'm just a 10 year stroke survivor living in the USA with zero medical background. There really is no point in increasing funding until a stroke rehabilitation strategy is identified that addresses all the problems in stroke. Otherwise we are just flailing in the dark. Existing funding could be better used with a defined strategy.
I bet I will be ignored.

Online journal BMJ Open has published a story that the funding for stroke in the UK is too low.
Dr Dale Webb, Director of Research and Information at the Stroke Association, said:
“Stroke can be devastating. It is the leading cause of complex adult disability and the second largest cause of death worldwide. We can conquer stroke, it is both preventable and treatable. However, the current amount of money spent on research into stroke is wholly inadequate.
“The global burden of stroke, including premature death, long-term illness and disability, is projected to more than double by 2030. If the level of research funding remains the same, we will not be ready for the challenges that a growing and ageing population will bring. We urgently need to address this impending crisis by prioritising investment into stroke research.”
