A quote from Seth Godin's latest post. So with 10 million yearly stroke survivors
, that is only 200-500 thousand people needing to speak truth to their doctors and hospitals. THAT STROKE REHAB IS A COMPLETE FUCKING FAILURE. AND THEY ARE DOING NOTHING TO SOLVE IT! With friends and relatives(10 per survivor)we only need 20,000 survivors to speak up. You need to shout it from the rooftops. The stroke medical world is to fossilized to move. If you didn't get 100% recovered your treatment was a failure and no amount of dissembling by your doctor changes that. If they use the excuse; 'All strokes are different, all stroke recoveries are different'. You need to scream in their faces; 'Don't try to excuse your incompetency by such a glib statement'.
I'm obviously a complete failure, not a single stroke medical person has ever contacted me. What am I doing wrong? So it it up to you to initiate the change because if you don't your children and grandchildren will bear the brunt of the stroke medical worlds failures.
The ones who didn’t help
If 2% of a population takes coordinated action, it makes a difference. If 5% do, it can change everything.
This simple math also means that most people rarely do anything. Perhaps they don’t care. Perhaps they’re afraid to speak up and commit. And perhaps it’s simply easier to go along for a free ride.
Of course it hurts when friends and colleagues we thought we could count on shirk and hide. But everyone has their own narrative, their own issues, their own fears. We can say, “if I were you,” but we’re not them, they are.
When we focus on the ones who didn’t help, we’re undermining our work. It’s a distraction and a disservice.
Shun the non-believers. Ignore the well-meaning but unmoved. Instead, we have the chance to find and connect and celebrate the people who care enough to make a difference.
Toward better.
