Social factors related to untreated post stroke depression
Introduction
Social drivers of mental healthcare (SDoMH), including age, race and ethnicity, insurance, employment, and education, have been linked to the risk of mental illness and the likelihood of receiving treatment [[1], [2], [3]]. Among stroke survivors, untreated depression compounds neurologic disability and impairs functional recovery [[4], [5], [6]]. Even still, older research reveals more than half of stroke survivors with depression do not receive medication or counseling [[7], [8], [9], [10]]. In this study, we utilize a recent nationally representative survey to determine which SDoMH are associated with post-stroke depression treatment receipt.
