My blog is not to help survivors recover, it is to have the 10 million yearly stroke survivors light fires underneath their doctors, stroke hospitals and stroke researchers to get stroke solved. 100% recovery. The stroke medical world is completely failing at that goal, they don't even have it as a goal. Shortly after getting out of the hospital and getting NO information on the process or protocols of stroke rehabilitation and recovery I started searching on the internet and found that no other survivor received useful information. This is an attempt to cover all stroke rehabilitation information that should be readily available to survivors so they can talk with informed knowledge to their medical staff. It lays out what needs to be done to get stroke survivors closer to 100% recovery. It's quite disgusting that this information is not available from every stroke association and doctors group.

Stroke Patient Rehabilitation: An Analysis of the Effects of Perturbation Training Combined with Hip Unloading Gait Strategies

 I really believe your therapists and doctors should be doing massive amounts of perturbation training so you know how to recover and prevent falling. My doctor always asks me if I fall; 'Of course I do, if I don't, I'm not challenging myself to be able to keep walking until I die at 100!' She doesn't like that answer; 'Well, she's wrong about that for me'.

    Background: 

    Perturbation training has been proven effective in reducing the risk of falls in stroke patients. When combined with hip unloading walking training, it may further enhance the restoration of walking and balance functions. This study aims to explore the rehabilitation effects of this combined training strategy on walking disabilities in post-stroke patients, with the goal of providing new methodological guidance for clinical rehabilitation.

    Methods: 

    A randomized controlled trial was conducted at Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital with stroke patients aged 18-70 years(Once you get past 70 years you had better have fallen enough to strengthen your bones. Therefore this perturbation training past 70 is probably too risky, you'll have to have your stroke early like me, at age 50!). Thirty patients were included and randomly assigned to three groups: the hip unloading walking group, the hip unloading plus perturbation walking group, and the control group, with ten patients in each. The effectiveness of the training was assessed before and after using the 10-meter walk test and the Berg Balance Scale, along with secondary indicators including the Fugl-Meyer Assessment for Lower Extremity, Functional Ambulation Categories, three-dimensional gait analysis, and the timed up-and-go test.Compared to other types of unloading perturbation training methods, hip unloading training exhibits unique superiority. Perturbation training significantly improved the balance and walking efficiency of stroke patients, especially those with severe balance issues, outperforming traditional rehabilitation methods. The unloading group also showed a positive trend, although it did not reach statistical significance. This demonstrates the potential value of perturbation training in stroke rehabilitation.
