Changing stroke rehab and research worldwide now.Time is Brain! trillions and trillions of neurons that DIE each day because there are NO effective hyperacute therapies besides tPA(only 12% effective). I have 523 posts on hyperacute therapy, enough for researchers to spend decades proving them out. These are my personal ideas and blog on stroke rehabilitation and stroke research. Do not attempt any of these without checking with your medical provider. Unless you join me in agitating, when you need these therapies they won't be there.

What this blog is for:

My blog is not to help survivors recover, it is to have the 10 million yearly stroke survivors light fires underneath their doctors, stroke hospitals and stroke researchers to get stroke solved. 100% recovery. The stroke medical world is completely failing at that goal, they don't even have it as a goal. Shortly after getting out of the hospital and getting NO information on the process or protocols of stroke rehabilitation and recovery I started searching on the internet and found that no other survivor received useful information. This is an attempt to cover all stroke rehabilitation information that should be readily available to survivors so they can talk with informed knowledge to their medical staff. It lays out what needs to be done to get stroke survivors closer to 100% recovery. It's quite disgusting that this information is not available from every stroke association and doctors group.

Winter Wondeland

Last Tuesday on my walk after it had stopped snowing 4 inches. Except when the wind blew and I got the complete snow globe effect. Why I actually like winter. Since it was only 4 inches I didn't have to post hole my steps and could fairly easily get in 10,000 steps

Snow walking

After a week of being gone the 8 inches we got last week has substantially decreased mainly due to melting from below, the ground is not frozen yet. Much easier walking now instead of having to plow thru 8 inches of snow. I can almost walk normally now, managed 10,000 steps in two hours.

Walking in snow

We had 8 inches of snow on Wednesday, it cancelled my planned trip to New York. By Saturday I needed 30,000 steps in two days to get to 70,000 for the week. This afternoon from 4:30 to 7 pm I hoofed the snow covered trails getting in 11,000 steps, about 1/3 had no previous walkers so I broke trail by plowing my left foot thru the snow rather than being able to lift it properly. Luckily my Sorels were high  and tight enough not to get snow in the boots. I skipped one untrodden section because I was getting too tired. Between 10:30 and midnight I walked the surrounding roads and sidewalks getting in another 8,000. On Sunday will just need 11,300 steps. Accomplishing this will mean I got in 70,000 steps a week for the last year except for one week in summer. It hasn't resulted in more weight loss but does allow me lots of social dinners and drinking.

Snow - Yes

Its lightly snowing today. Maybe this winter will actually be a decent winter for stroke rehab. You need fairly deep snow so you have to post hole your steps requiring you to lift your foot high enough to clear the snow and stay balanced. Last year was pathetic, about 5 snowfalls of 4-5 inches each time, the snow would completely melt between each snowfall and the ground never froze. My trail clearing just needs two more limbs cut out. I hate daylight savings time, it doesn't allow me any walking time in daylight after work.

Snow walking stroke therapy

We have a measly 2 inches of snow here. Yesterday I walked for 1.5 hours on the trails next to here, with snow globe snow coming down. This is barely effective as a useful walking therapy. What we really need is 12-15 inches of unbroken snow. I remember trying to walk when the snow was over my knees. That would be for advanced patients. The requirement would be to posthole every step. This would force recovery, any compensation you would try would fail, probably dumping you into the soft snow. Your therapist would require releases from getting snow down your neck, etc.. And snow angels would be wonderful, all that abduction.

The snow is going, going, gone

Damn these weather patterns. I'm finally in a place where I could walk out the door and go cross-country skiing. On Sunday we received 3 inches of new snow on top of the 2 inches that were there. This morning, Tuesday, after an all night rain the grass is once again showing, 51F at 11am and foggy out.
