Knowing how to do this in stroke is imperative. We have to somehow convince everyone in stroke leadership positions that they have no clue in how to solve anything in stroke.
Another great Seth Godin blog post.
http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2015/11/a-reason-persuasion-is-surprisingly-difficult.html
Each of us understands that different people are swayed by different
sorts of arguments, based on different ways of viewing the world. That
seems sort of obvious. A toddler might want an orange juice because it's
sweet, not because she's trying to avoid scurvy, which might be the
argument that moves an intellectual but vitamin-starved sailor to take
action.
So far, so good.
The difficult part is this: Even
when people making an argument know this, they don't like making an
argument that appeals to the other person's alternative worldview.
This is key. What is the worldview of stroke leaders that they don't see all the problems in stroke and just focus on press releases, prevention tidbits and F.A.S.T.?
Worth a full stop here. Even when people have an argument about a
political action they want someone else to adopt, or a product they want
them to buy, they hesitate to make that argument with empathy. Instead,
they default to talking about why they believe it.
Use the labels in the right column to find what you want. Or you can go thru them one by one, there are only 33,991 posts. Searching is done in the search box in upper left corner. I blog on anything to do with stroke. DO NOT DO ANYTHING SUGGESTED HERE AS I AM NOT MEDICALLY TRAINED, YOUR DOCTOR IS, LISTEN TO THEM. BUT I BET THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET YOU 100% RECOVERED. I DON'T EITHER BUT HAVE PLENTY OF QUESTIONS FOR YOUR DOCTOR TO ANSWER.
Changing stroke rehab and research worldwide now.Time is Brain! trillions and trillions of neurons that DIE each day because there are NO effective hyperacute therapies besides tPA(only 12% effective). I have 523 posts on hyperacute therapy, enough for researchers to spend decades proving them out. These are my personal ideas and blog on stroke rehabilitation and stroke research. Do not attempt any of these without checking with your medical provider. Unless you join me in agitating, when you need these therapies they won't be there.
What this blog is for:
My blog is not to help survivors recover, it is to have the 10 million yearly stroke survivors light fires underneath their doctors, stroke hospitals and stroke researchers to get stroke solved. 100% recovery. The stroke medical world is completely failing at that goal, they don't even have it as a goal. Shortly after getting out of the hospital and getting NO information on the process or protocols of stroke rehabilitation and recovery I started searching on the internet and found that no other survivor received useful information. This is an attempt to cover all stroke rehabilitation information that should be readily available to survivors so they can talk with informed knowledge to their medical staff. It lays out what needs to be done to get stroke survivors closer to 100% recovery. It's quite disgusting that this information is not available from every stroke association and doctors group.

Understanding Persuasion and Motivation in Interactive Stroke Rehabilitation
Your doctor needs to know which patients need motivation to undertake the extremely difficult task of stroke rehab with absolutely no guidebook and no help from the doctor. Or you'll have to get this yourself.

Abstract
For the research reported in this paper ethnographic research methodologies were used to explore patient motivation, feedback and the use of interactive technologies in the ward. We have conducted in-depth interviews with physiotherapists, who work closely with stroke patients to help them regain movement and function. From this research, a set of design guidelines have been developed which can be applied in the design of interactive rehabilitation equipment.

Eye Contact Increases Resistance to Persuasion
Remember this when you are talking to your doctor and need to convince them that they are stupid and know nothing about stroke recovery.

Abstract
Popular belief holds that eye contact
increases the success of persuasive communication, and prior research
suggests that
speakers who direct their gaze more toward their
listeners are perceived as more persuasive. In contrast, we demonstrate
that
more eye contact between the listener and speaker
during persuasive communication predicts less attitude change in the
direction
advocated. In Study 1, participants freely watched
videos of speakers expressing various views on controversial
sociopolitical
issues. Greater direct gaze at the speaker’s eyes
was associated with less attitude change in the direction advocated by
the
speaker. In Study 2, we instructed participants to
look at either the eyes or the mouths of speakers presenting arguments
counter to participants’ own attitudes.
Intentionally maintaining direct eye contact led to less persuasion than
did gazing
at the mouth. These findings suggest that efforts
at increasing eye contact may be counterproductive across a variety of
persuasion
contexts.

Persuasion of stroke needs
I don't deal well with stupid people, but I'm sure my style of presenting leaves a bit to be desired. I'm probably the bad cop. I was having a beer with a good friend of mine and we were discussing my argument style in my blog.
He told me that not only do I tell them they are wrong, I beat them over the heads with proof that they shouldn't even be in the same room with me. His experience working as a social worker with street people and ex-convicts has led to a vastly more conciliatory approach, it doesn't get the dander up of those he needs to work with. I agree, I probably need a confederate who is much more easy-going.
What are your opinions of how to convince the stroke medical world they need to make vast changes?
Other possibilities, but not necessarily for me;
