Changing stroke rehab and research worldwide now.Time is Brain! trillions and trillions of neurons that DIE each day because there are NO effective hyperacute therapies besides tPA(only 12% effective). I have 523 posts on hyperacute therapy, enough for researchers to spend decades proving them out. These are my personal ideas and blog on stroke rehabilitation and stroke research. Do not attempt any of these without checking with your medical provider. Unless you join me in agitating, when you need these therapies they won't be there.

What this blog is for:

My blog is not to help survivors recover, it is to have the 10 million yearly stroke survivors light fires underneath their doctors, stroke hospitals and stroke researchers to get stroke solved. 100% recovery. The stroke medical world is completely failing at that goal, they don't even have it as a goal. Shortly after getting out of the hospital and getting NO information on the process or protocols of stroke rehabilitation and recovery I started searching on the internet and found that no other survivor received useful information. This is an attempt to cover all stroke rehabilitation information that should be readily available to survivors so they can talk with informed knowledge to their medical staff. It lays out what needs to be done to get stroke survivors closer to 100% recovery. It's quite disgusting that this information is not available from every stroke association and doctors group.

Another presentation by Dean - Dementia prevention

I have fun at these, especially when I show them my abnormal brain scan as compared to normal ones. Gasps usually occur.
A Cafe Scientifique presentation.

Dementia Prevention - Why should you care and what to do about it.

Schuler Books - Eastwood Towne Center, Lansing,MI
Tuesday, February 18, 2014 - 7:00 p.m.

One in three seniors die with dementia or Alzheimer's.  Dean Reinke, our presenter, is a mainframe programmer, with no medical training.  He learned about the brain, because 7 years ago he had a massive stroke.  Strokies have a 33% chance of getting dementia/Alzheimers and he was determined that that was not going to happen to him.  He writes the Deans' Stroke Musings blog, which is the most popular stroke blog on the net.  Everything he will talk about is documented on the blog, with links to the relevant research articles.  He has written 107 posts on Alzheimers and 65 on dementia.

I will be comparing and contrasting my ideas with Harvard Medical School and generic prevention ideas.

10% full recovery for stroke

A one slide presentation you can give to any medical stroke group.
10% is the only thing on the slide, you can create your own examples and make it into an hour-long presentation. They will remember it as the most powerful presentation they have ever seen/heard. Hopefully it will spur them to action.  Leave them with, 'What medical procedure would you undertake with only a 10% chance of success? Success is 100% recovery, nothing less!
First, according to Steve Jobs, you have to explain the problem.
Only 10% of stroke survivors fully recover. From 10% full recovery for stroke.
5 Powerful Ways to Open a Presentation
Is a 10% rate acceptable in any endeavor?
Use professional baseball hitting average,
Shaquille O'Neal free throw percentage,
Quarterback passing percentage,
Or any other percent that can show how stupid 10% is, you will need to beat them over the head with it.
Would you have a surgery that only had a 10% chance of succeeding?
Do not allow any excuses to be presented, like 'All strokes are different, all stroke recoveries are different'
You then ask for their solutions to bring that to 100%.
F.A.S.T. is not allowed, prevention is not allowed.
You then start at the beginning.
Diagnosis - objective - 17 possibilities; Which one are they researching/using?
How about these 11 risk reduction ideas,
Never mind hypothermia - these 16 possibilities. Reduces the damage occurring. It doesn't seem to work.
Reduce the neuronal cascade of death - maybe these 177 possibilities. If your doctor isn't using any of these, they are a major part of the problem - Fire them.

5 Powerful Ways to Close a Presentation
I know you don't feel this is your responsibility but everyone in the stroke world is sitting on their asses doing very little that is useful. This is not
There is no coordinated strategy or plan on how to address the coming tsunami of stroke. And I want 200% better service that I received last time. That is actually meaningless since I received no service at all from my doctor and 200% time zero is still zero.

Stroke - Somebody Else's Problem   Its your problem because you are the only one who cares.

Steve Jobs: "People With Passion Can Change The World"

I just finished reading the book

The presentation secrets of Steve Jobs : how to be insanely great in front of any audience / Carmine Gallo.

This is all in preparation for a presentation I'm doing on cognitive reserve at the end of the month.

Are you passionate? In any sense of the word?

Explaining stroke 101 - from the NSA

Look at it first before I color your impression.
http://www.stroke.org/site/DocServer/Explaining_Stroke_101.pptx?docID=8321
Page 2 -You notice nothing on actually finding solutions to diagnosis, treatment, recovery. No mention of research. In other words, they are just a  press release organization. I will never donate to any org that doesn't do real work. They can easily look to the Alzheimers Foundation or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for examples. I wonder how their board of directors can live with themselves.
Page 4, 7 million survivors in the US and nothing being done for them. They are missing a huge pool of donations if they had any help in recovery for these chronic survivors.
Pages5-8, No links to references. If they expect to be taken seriously you have to document your sources.
Page 10, definition, I wish they would mention the real reason to be concerned, blood carries oxygen and neurons don't survive long without it.
Page 11, shows a carotid artery obstruction. This is not a stroke. With a fully functioning Circle of Willis that blockage as shown is harmless. It would only become harmful if the clot continued travelling and lodged in an artery in the brain.
Pages 18-20, stroke prevention. These are all so bland and non-specific as to be useless.
Page 23, no mention of how badly tPA works or the use of gluing. Nothing on any treatments that can stop the neuronal cascade of death. It seems they don't even know anything about the progression of stroke.
Page 24, recovery statistics. These are appalling and need to show changes since the NSA started.
Page 28, purpose of NSA. In my opinion they have failed because their purpose is wrong.
