Changing stroke rehab and research worldwide now.Time is Brain! trillions and trillions of neurons that DIE each day because there are NO effective hyperacute therapies besides tPA(only 12% effective). I have 523 posts on hyperacute therapy, enough for researchers to spend decades proving them out. These are my personal ideas and blog on stroke rehabilitation and stroke research. Do not attempt any of these without checking with your medical provider. Unless you join me in agitating, when you need these therapies they won't be there.

What this blog is for:

My blog is not to help survivors recover, it is to have the 10 million yearly stroke survivors light fires underneath their doctors, stroke hospitals and stroke researchers to get stroke solved. 100% recovery. The stroke medical world is completely failing at that goal, they don't even have it as a goal. Shortly after getting out of the hospital and getting NO information on the process or protocols of stroke rehabilitation and recovery I started searching on the internet and found that no other survivor received useful information. This is an attempt to cover all stroke rehabilitation information that should be readily available to survivors so they can talk with informed knowledge to their medical staff. It lays out what needs to be done to get stroke survivors closer to 100% recovery. It's quite disgusting that this information is not available from every stroke association and doctors group.

Cut Stroke Risk 40% By Eating This Delicious Snack

Oh hell, that's nothing. You as an alternative medicine site should refer to something alternative. Fruits are not alternative, just standard medical practice.

Cut Stroke Risk 40% By Eating This Delicious Snack

If you could take a magic pill, that caused absolutely no side effects, that cut your risk of suffering stroke and heart attack in half, wouldn’t you take it?
How about if there was one small, delicious snack that had the same effects?
You can find this snack in every supermarket and you probably already have it in your kitchen. Isn’t that easily worth saving your life?
And just to set the record straight, this snack was proven more effective than any cholesterol or blood pressure drug in a recent study recently conducted by Oxford University.
Mom was right all along! Fruits and fresh, leafy vegetables are good for you.
And it took a study spanning seven years conducted on half a million people to prove mom right. It involved 451,681 people with no previous history of cardiovascular disease at the beginning of the study.
The participants were divided into five groups based on their fruit-eating habits – Daily, 4-6 days a week, 1-3 days per week, monthly and never. About 18 percent of the participants ate fruits every day, while at the other end of the spectrum about 6.3 percent of participants never ate fruits at all.
Over the course of 7 years, 19,300 heart attack cases and 19,689 cases of stroke were recorded. Those who ate fruits daily, compared to those who never ate fruits, had a 15% lesser risk of developing overall cardiovascular diseases. But when it came to a stroke risk, the numbers were stunning. Those who ate fruits daily were 40% less likely to suffer stroke than those who never or seldom ate fruits.Better still, people who ate fruits regularly also had 3 points lower blood pressure readings than those who avoided them. Citrus fruits were discovered to be the best options as they offered the maximum benefits. So make sure you snack on some delicious oranges, mandarins, grape fruits or other citrus.
Another study conducted by University College, London revealed that eating about 7 portions of fresh fruits and vegetables daily can reduce the risks of death by all causes by up to 42 percent.
If you aren’t convinced already, this is the time to make fruits and vegetables an essential part of your diet. Next time, push away that bag of chips and take a piece of fruit instead.
But if you already have high blood pressure, changing your diet habits may not be enough to bring it down to a healthy level. Instead, try these 3 easy exercises proven to lower blood pressure – starting today…
Or, if your cholesterol is too high, learn how cutting out ONE single ingredient will normalize your cholesterol in 30 days or less and clear out clogged arteries…

Complementary and alternative interventions for fatigue management after traumatic brain injury: a systematic review

None of these are complementary or alternative, they are standard medical interventions, just not well used yet.

We systematically reviewed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of complementary and alternative interventions for fatigue after traumatic brain injury (TBI).
We searched multiple online sources including ClinicalTrials.gov, the Cochrane Library database, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Embase, the Web of Science, AMED, PsychINFO, Toxline, ProQuest Digital Dissertations, PEDro, PsycBite, and the World Health Organization (WHO) trial registry, in addition to hand searching of grey literature. The methodological quality of each included study was assessed using the Jadad scale, and the quality of evidence was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system. A descriptive review was performed.
Ten RCTs of interventions for post-TBI fatigue (PTBIF) that included 10 types of complementary and alternative interventions were assessed in our study. There were four types of physical interventions including aquatic physical activity, fitness-center-based exercise, Tai Chi, and aerobic training. The three types of cognitive and behavioral interventions (CBIs) were cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), and computerized working-memory training. The Flexyx Neurotherapy System (FNS) and cranial electrotherapy were the two types of biofeedback therapy, and finally, one type of light therapy was included. Although the four types of intervention included aquatic physical activity, MBSR, computerized working-memory training and blue-light therapy showed unequivocally effective results, the quality of evidence was low/very low according to the GRADE system.
The present systematic review of existing RCTs suggests that aquatic physical activity, MBSR, computerized working-memory training, and blue-light therapy may be beneficial treatments for PTBIF. Due to the many flaws and limitations in these studies, further controlled trials using these interventions for PTBIF are necessary.

Chelation: No Benefit in Ischemic Stroke

This is one of those alternative treatments. Why would clearing out arteries have any benefit if the forces of the neuronal cascade of death are allowed to continue?
http://www.medpagetoday.com/Cardiology/Strokes/37247
A chelating agent targeting zinc that showed promise in early studies failed to improve outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke, a prematurely-terminated randomized trial showed.
At 90 days after the stroke, the distribution of modified Rankin scores was similar in the patients who received the agent -- DP-b99 -- and those who received placebo (P=0.21), according to Kennedy Lees, MD, of the University of Glasgow in Scotland, and colleagues.
Rates of mortality and adverse events did not differ between the two groups, the researchers reported online in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association. The findings also were presented at the International Stroke Conference in Honolulu.

Quacks and Conspiracies: The undermining of science and your health

In case you use one of these; homeopathy, naturopathy, alternative medicine, you will want to at least try to read this.
http://c2cjournal.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/C2CJournal_Winter2013-FINAL.pdf
In this issue of C2C Journal, we take the side of science and the scientific method over ad hominem attacks, foggy reasoning, magical thinking, and outright chicanery. Science and a proper understanding of it matters for many reasons but in the context of personal health, it matters even more.

Homeopathy is a faith-informed practice and, as such, largely impervious to rational argumentation.

In modern scientific research, the gold standard is
the hypothetico-deductive method, which operates
through the following stages:
1. Inductively gather information through
observation.
2. Formulate an explanatory theory.
3. From that theory, deduce a hypothesis (prediction).
4. Compare (test) that hypothesis against
systematic empirical evidence.
5. If the prediction is accurate, consider the theory
tentatively supported (i.e., not yet falsified)
but continue to derive other predictions for
empirical testing.
6. If the prediction is falsified, revise or abandon
the theory, and start the cycle over again.
7. Let other researchers replicate the experiment
to ensure that results are not a statistical outlier
or perhaps due to some quirk of the researcher.
