Specially trained endovascular neurosurgeons use a biplane angiography system to treat ischemic strokes by removing blockages in blood vessels and restoring blood flow to the brain. They also use this technology to treat conditions that can cause hemorrhagic stroke or bleeding in the brain, like an aneurysm. They perform these lifesaving procedures through tiny incisions in the wrist or thigh, helping patients recover quickly.

Scotland misses stroke care target for eighth year in a row

The Scottish Government is still “failing stroke patients”, a charity has warned after targets were missed for an eighth consecutive year.

The annual stroke care(NOT RECOVERY!) report published by Public Health Scotland found a 3.6 percentage point increase in patients receiving the care(NOT RECOVERY!) bundle: a swallow screen, brain imaging, aspirin and admission to a stroke unit.

However, the figure remains just over half, at 56.7 per cent, well below the government target of 80 per cent.

There was also a small increase in the number of people receiving thrombolysis, to 11.6 per cent.

But the number of patients who underwent thrombectomy remained unchanged at 1.9 per cent. International comparisons suggest the proportion of stroke patients typically suitable for the procedure is nearer 10 per cent.

Joanne Graham, director of service delivery at Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland, said while there had been some “welcome progress”, improvements were “not being achieved at the pace required”.

She said: “These challenges have been recognised for many years, and we need the Scottish Government to build on today’s marginal progress and continue driving better outcomes for people affected by stroke over the next five years.

“Investing in stroke services, rehabilitation and recovery support can improve quality of life, reduce disability and deliver long-term benefits for both patients and the wider health system.

“Too often the conversation about stroke ends when a patient leaves hospital, but recovery can continue for months and years afterwards.”

A total of 11,048 people had a stroke in Scotland last year, down from 11,367 in 2024.

While the vast majority of patients received aspirin, at 92.2 per cent, and brain imaging, at 91.6 per cent, fewer were admitted to a stroke unit, at 72.1 per cent, or given a swallow screen, at 70.8 per cent.

No health board in Scotland hit the 80 per cent target for all four elements of the bundle.

NHS Shetland performed best, while NHS Borders performed worst.

NHS Highland, NHS Forth Valley and NHS Lanarkshire made statistically significant improvements compared with 2024.

Public health minister Maree Todd(She needs to be fired for incompetence in setting a goal for 'care' NOT RECOVERY!) said: “We are focused on ensuring people who have had a stroke receive the best possible care(NOT RECOVERY!) as quickly as possible to enable them to live longer, healthier and more independent lives.

“Whilst it is welcome to see an improvement in stroke bundle performance, we know there is more to do, and we will continue to work with health boards to drive up standards of stroke care(NOT RECOVERY!).

“We have committed to supporting new community gyms for stroke rehabilitation and we have invested over £63m to date on expanding access to thrombectomy procedures. We are clearly focused on delivering a 24/7 thrombectomy service so that thrombectomies are available regardless of location.”

Scottish Labour said the figures showed Scots were “being let down”.

Deputy leader Jackie Baillie said: “Despite the tireless efforts of NHS staff, patients are still facing dangerously long waits for care(NOT RECOVERY!) and limited treatment options.

“The SNP must admit that this is not good enough and set out a real plan to deliver the standard of care(NOT RECOVERY!) stroke patients need right across the country.”

HGMH Expands Physiatry Services to Outpatients

 Which means they are a COMPLETE FUCKING FAILURE AT GETTING THEM RECOVERED while still in hospital! Leading me to believe they have done nothing to save the hundreds of millions of neurons they are allowing to die because they did NOTHING to stop the 5 causes of the neuronal cascade of death in the first week!

HGMH Expands Physiatry Services to Outpatients

Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) is expanding its Physiatry program to include outpatient consultations, increasing access to specialized rehabilitation care(NOT RECOVERY!) for residents of Glengarry and surrounding communities.

Physiatry is a medical specialty focused on improving function, mobility, and quality of life for individuals recovering from stroke, neurological injury, and other disabling conditions.

Since the fall of 2025, Physiatry services at HGMH have supported referred inpatients as part of the hospital’s commitment to enhancing rehabilitation and recovery services. Building on the success of that program, patients can now be referred for outpatient consultations with Dr. Jacqueline Cochrane, a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with advanced training in stroke rehabilitation and spasticity management.

Many patients continue to face challenges long after being discharged from hospitals following a stroke or neurological injury. Physiatry services help identify barriers to recovery and develop individualized treatment plans to maximize independence and participation in daily life.

The expansion of Physiatry services is another example of HGMH’s ongoing commitment to bringing specialized healthcare services closer to home and improving access to care(NOT RECOVERY!) for the communities it serves.

Referrals are accepted from physicians and nurse practitioners for patients with OHIP or RAMQ coverage.

Freeman Health System receives ‘Get With the Guidelines' awards for heart, stroke care

Freeman Health System recently received three "Get With the Guidelines" achievement awards from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

According to Freeman, each year, more than 1.2 million people in the U.S. are hospitalized with acute coronary syndrome, according to the American Heart Association. About 30% of ACS cases are classified as STEMI, caused by a complete blockage in a coronary artery. Stroke is the fourth-leading cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the U.S., according to the American Heart Association.

Since 2019, Freeman Health System has earned 12 "Get With the Guidelines" achievement awards, including five in 2025.(So, a COMPLETE FUCKING FAILURE FOR 6 YEARS ALREADY! Going for a record?)

I couldn't find any stroke standards at the CARF website - http://www.carf.org/home/
so with nothing public, this is completely fucking worthless. Because if this is all just doing processes with no measurement of results, then useless. 

Newport Hospital’s Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center earns CARF re-accreditation through 2029

One of only six inpatient rehab centers in New England with stroke specialty accreditation, VRC has been continuously accredited since 1979

Brown University Health’s Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center at Newport Hospital has earned re-accreditation from CARF International, extending its recognition through June 30, 2029.

The accreditation covers VRC’s Adult Inpatient Rehabilitation Program and Adult Stroke Specialty Program. CARF — the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities — evaluates programs against rigorous standards related to patient care, outcomes, leadership, and organizational performance. VRC is one of only eight CARF-accredited adult inpatient rehabilitation centers in New England and one of only six with stroke specialty accreditation. The center has been continuously CARF accredited since 1979.

“This reaccreditation reflects the exceptional commitment of our Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center team to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care(NOT RECOVERY!),” said Melissa J. Fournier, director of inpatient rehabilitation services for Brown University Health.

Tenny Thomas, MD, president and chief medical officer of Newport Hospital, noted that VRC’s patients include those recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, and other complex, life-altering conditions. “The exceptional outcomes achieved by our high-acuity rehabilitation patients reflect both the expertise of our interdisciplinary team and our commitment to providing individualized, evidence-based care(NOT RECOVERY!),” he said.
