Abstract: The purpose of this study as to compare the effects of the Kabat method with functional electrical stimulation (FES) and the association of the methods on the functional capacity of hemiparetic patients. This was a case series with three hemiparetic patients. The participants were evaluated at the beginning and end of treatment for range of motion of the ankle, gait constituents, and functionality. Patients were randomly assigned to: (patient A) treatment with Kabat, (patient B) treatment with FES and Kabat, and (patient C) treatment with FES. All participants did gait training for a total of 25 sessions of 50 minutes each. There was an improvement in the range of motion of dorsiflexion of patients A and B, improvement in the functionality in patients B and C, step increase in patients B and C, increased size based on all patients, and improvement in the speed and cadence in patients A and C. Patient B was the participant who tested positive for all variables, indicating that the association of Kabat and the FES methods may be more efficient for patients with stroke sequelae.
