Deans' stroke musings: toque

Changing stroke rehab and research worldwide now.Time is Brain! trillions and trillions of neurons that DIE each day because there are NO effective hyperacute therapies besides tPA(only 12% effective). I have 523 posts on hyperacute therapy, enough for researchers to spend decades proving them out. These are my personal ideas and blog on stroke rehabilitation and stroke research. Do not attempt any of these without checking with your medical provider. Unless you join me in agitating, when you need these therapies they won't be there.

What this blog is for:

My blog is not to help survivors recover, it is to have the 10 million yearly stroke survivors light fires underneath their doctors, stroke hospitals and stroke researchers to get stroke solved. 100% recovery. The stroke medical world is completely failing at that goal, they don't even have it as a goal. Shortly after getting out of the hospital and getting NO information on the process or protocols of stroke rehabilitation and recovery I started searching on the internet and found that no other survivor received useful information. This is an attempt to cover all stroke rehabilitation information that should be readily available to survivors so they can talk with informed knowledge to their medical staff. It lays out what needs to be done to get stroke survivors closer to 100% recovery. It's quite disgusting that this information is not available from every stroke association and doctors group.

Driving aids needed

To get to my former home in Minnesota is a 12 hour drive. With the spasticity in my left leg NOT CURED by my therapists or doctors. My left knee will forcefully dig into the driver door.

Safely home after 11 hours 45 minutes. Great driving thru WI, tiny snow around Chicago. Really didn't get snow until the Michigan line, then it was covering the road. Being the good boy I was, I put it in 4WD and drove 40-50 mph until it cleared. The last 15 miles were the worst, whiteout conditions at night.

So to compensate I have to put an item of clothing there for padding. This weekend it was a hefty toque.

Toque installation challenges

My stroke was in May so nothing about winter weather was covered. The only way I can get a toque on is to put the bottom edge against a wall, put my forehead against that edge and use the good hand to pull it down around my ears. Luckily my daughter knitted one that is quite roomy, all my tight fitting ones are impossible without someone else. I do despise the ushanka hats because the ear flaps have to be tied

one handed toque donning - Canadian a close-fitting knitted hat, often with a tassel or pom-pom on the crown.

This was missing from my ADL lessons even though I lived in Minnesota at the time. I have to settle it on my forehead such that I can lean my forehead against a wall or corner and then be able to pull in over my ears and the rest of my head. Compensation I know but getting my left arm up to my head and opening my hand at the same time is totally impossible.
