Study: Rehab specifics help stroke patients overcome aftermath to body
We often hear about heart rehab after a heart event; now, researchers conducting a study on stroke recovery in the Annals of Internal Medicine say stroke rehab may make a huge difference in recovery from the aftermath of a stroke, including common problems such as foot drop and even depression.
Researchers say they found treadmill training with bodyweight support was best for helping people walk again, and repetitive movement exercises for a limb that's damaged help with everyday tasks.
Here are a few others:
- Electric stimulation therapy helped with foot drop
- Robotic arm training also helped with a damaged limb
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy, exercise and antidepressants helped with easing post-stroke depression
