Changing stroke rehab and research worldwide now.Time is Brain! trillions and trillions of neurons that DIE each day because there are NO effective hyperacute therapies besides tPA(only 12% effective). I have 523 posts on hyperacute therapy, enough for researchers to spend decades proving them out. These are my personal ideas and blog on stroke rehabilitation and stroke research. Do not attempt any of these without checking with your medical provider. Unless you join me in agitating, when you need these therapies they won't be there.

My blog is not to help survivors recover, it is to have the 10 million yearly stroke survivors light fires underneath their doctors, stroke hospitals and stroke researchers to get stroke solved. 100% recovery. The stroke medical world is completely failing at that goal, they don't even have it as a goal. Shortly after getting out of the hospital and getting NO information on the process or protocols of stroke rehabilitation and recovery I started searching on the internet and found that no other survivor received useful information. This is an attempt to cover all stroke rehabilitation information that should be readily available to survivors so they can talk with informed knowledge to their medical staff. It lays out what needs to be done to get stroke survivors closer to 100% recovery. It's quite disgusting that this information is not available from every stroke association and doctors group.

Do you know Sheila Martins, Neurology Professor and President-elect of the World Stroke Organization?

Then ask her when the WSO is going to solve stroke, 100% recovery for all. Stroke is in the name of the organization after all. None of the previous presidents seem to have done ONE DAMN THING to solve stroke.

Member Bio

Professor Sheila Martin, born in 1971 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Professor of Medical School of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Coordinator of Stroke Program of Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre and Head of Neurology and Neurosurgery of Hospital Moinhos de Vento.

She graduated in Medicine at the Medical School of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, has a Master in Science in Internal Medicine from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, PhD in Stroke Neurology from Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). She received her Neurology training at Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre, Brazil.

She has a leading role in research in organization and evaluation of stroke Systems of care in Brazil and America Latina, implementation of acute care, evaluation of telemedicine, implementation of registries, and clinical trials to evaluate treatments to be implemented in public health care system.

Prof Sheila Martins received in 2018 the World Stroke Organization Services Award for her work in organizing stroke services in Brazil and received the Brazilian Stroke Society Award in 2019 for her work to improve stroke care in Brazil.

She is Past President of Brazilian Stroke Society (2012-2014), Immediate Past-President of Iberoamerican Stroke Society (2018-2020), founder (2008) and President of Brazilian Stroke Network. She was Vice-President for Stroke Support Organization of World Stroke Organization (2018-2020) and now she is the Elected-President of World Stroke Organization. She is the Honorary Member of the Red Colombiana de ACV – RECAVAR (Colombian Stroke Network). As advisor of the Ministry of Health in Brazil (2008-2009) she visited the whole country to evaluate the situation of stroke care in Brazil and organized and implemented the pilot program together with the health secretaries. From 2011-2016 she participated in the creation and implementation of the National Stroke Policy. Since then she has worked in education programs to the whole network and together with health authorities implemented new stroke centres and also research in stroke applied to the public health system. She is starting now a program together with the Ministry of Health to improve primary prevention in Brazil. Since 2009 she is responsible for the organization of the World Stroke Campaign in Brazil.

She has published 84 articles, mainly about stroke services, stroke systems of care and telemedicine, but also an important clinical trial (RESILIENT Trial) to approve thrombectomy in stroke in Brazil.

She has been married for 25 years and has 2 stepchildren (2 men: a doctor and a lawyer). She enjoys travel, dance, cinema and art. And she loves being with her best friends.
